Struggling to make email marketing work for your business?
Look…
I get it.
Most email marketing does not live up to the hype.
“Email marketing has an ROI of 40 to 1”
Heard that one before?
Me too.
And I’ll admit… it’s a fun stat for agencies and content creators to throw around.
But, it’s not particularly helpful to you.
The Truth About Email
Let’s face it … most email campaigns don’t live up to the ultra-hyped ROI most blog posts and marketing gurus claim is possible.
But, don’t get me wrong …
Email is still a highly effective marketing channel—maybe even the most effective.
Many businesses are seeing ROIs of nearly 40 to 1 with email marketing.
While others struggle to make any returns at all on their investment.
This may come as a real shock but people actually like getting email.
- A 2015 survey found that most customers preferred for companies to communicate with them through email. 72% of those surveyed actually preferred email over other channels (including social media).
- Another survey found that 91% of U.S. adults actually like getting promotional email messages.
Let that one sink in for a minute …
The truth is … email is a tool.
And you have to understand how to use the tool effectively if you want to make it work for your business.
Much like a carpenter who can’t swing a hammer properly will have a tough time doing his job well, a business that’s not using email effectively will never come close to a 40 to 1 ROI.
But tools are not always easy to understand.
Some years ago I worked for a big company with a big e-mail list. Because they had such a big list, they felt like it was okay to take a spray and pray approach to e-mail.
Hit the list with lots of offers and someone will buy.
While this worked to an extant (sort of), it really did more damage in the long run to the organization’s reputation than anything else. They made some money, but burned a lot of bridges in the process
Rather than using e-mail as a personal connection point, they hammered people with generic ads and… well, 99% of them had absolutely had little to no interest in what they were seeing.
Email can be used like many of the old mass media ad (radio, TV, etc.)—dropped into inboxes like a million tiny confetti bombs. But, email marketing is most effective when used to forge a personal connection with subscribers.
If that sounds a little… squishy, you’re not alone.
Finding the right messaging and methodology for effective emails can be a challenge… but the rewards are unmistakable.
Like you, I’ve seen email programs fail to perform like they could (or fail to perform at all) due to a simple lack of understanding.
I get it… email marketing takes time and experience to master and staff and resources to implement.
So, what if you could make email marketing easy?
What if you could put it on autopilot?
Set and forget it…
I think you can do just that.
